Techniques for managing urban woodlands will be discussed, including identifying and dealing with invasive species. Invasive species pose a significant threat to the ecology of native forests and designed landscapes. Learn the array of invasive species in our area, their environmental impact, and the regulations affecting their control. The recommended best management practices for controlling invasive species, how they are affecting our native ecosystems, and what can be done about it will be discussed. This class will have an emphasis on monitoring with the “hands-on” activity of establishing and sampling restoration plots AND monitoring for invasive insects. Please dress appropriately for the weather.
