8th Annual Cornell University Cooperative Extension Invasive Species Outreach Workshop

Taking the Next Steps in the Empire State’s Battle Against Invasive Species

Tuesday, November 18, 2014 - Thursday, November 20, 2014

Cornell Cooperative Extension Agriculture & Food In-service

School of Industrial and Labor Relations Conference Center, Cornell University, Ithaca, NY

Colleagues,

Registration for the 2014 Cornell Cooperative Extension Invasive Species Program/NYS Invasive Species Clearinghouse Invasive Species In-Service. This year’s workshop will be held on the Cornell University campus Tuesday, November 18 through Thursday, November 20. This year some sessions are being held jointly with the Environment track of the in-service, so we will have the opportunity for additional interaction with natural science educators with whom many of you are not familiar.

A special iMapInvasives session is being held in Mann Library from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening (there is no additional fee). This session will be limited to 20 - 25 participants.

Also, you are invited to join us for a tribute to Anne LaBastille, a.k.a. “Woodswoman” (1933 – 2011) to kick off the new Woodswoman Memorial Scholarship. LaBastille, a Cornell University graduate, was a pioneer in conservation, a courageous advocate for the environment, an award-winning author of more than a dozen books including the Woodswoman series, Jaguar Totem, and Women and Wilderness, and a contributing writer to National Geographic. This event is is to honor Ms. LaBastille for her accomplishments in conservation by the establishment of the new scholarship at her university alma mater. For details, please contact Leslie Surprenant at NYS DEC:  leslie.surprenant@dec.ny.gov

The "Final" [working] agenda is attached. Please note that some of the presentations speakers have not all been confirmed. Our daily themes and presentation topics are, however, final at this time.

 Meals:

This year, there is one formal luncheon (see CCE registration site). Although this luncheon is targeted mainly to CCE Agricultural and Food Systems related educators, all in-service registrants are welcome to register. Please note, however, that since many of our invasive species track attendees are not CCE, we will be starting our afternoon session earlier than the purely CCE tracks will be starting back up. Otherwise, lunches are "on-your-own," so grab a few colleagues and head off to one of the nearby university dining facilities:

Trillium and Trillium Expressin Kennedy Hall at the corner of Garden and Tower road. Exit the main entrance of the conference center, turn right and continue down Garden Ave. At the light, cross Tower Road, then cross Garden Ave. The entrances to Trillium and Trillium Express will be up a short flight of stairs to the building in front of you.

Synapsis Cafe in Weill Hall. Exit the main entrance of the conference center. Cross the road and head up the walking paths toward a large white building. Synapsis is on the ground floor of Weill Hall.

Taverna Banfi and The Terrace Restaurant in the Statler Hotel. Exit the conference center on the 2nd floor into the quad. Follow the walking paths towards the Statler’s circular drive. Enter the hotel, Taverna Banfi is upstairs on the 2nd floor (reservations suggested) and the Terrace Restaurant is on the ground floor.
