Invasive Insect Trap Monitor Workshop

Want to protect rare pine communities? Help us find a new forest pest, the Southern Pine Beetle. We need a few volunteers to adopt a trap to check at local parks. Take this workshop to learn how.

The Trail Conference is supporting the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation in monitoring the invasive Southern Pine Beetle in New York state, and we have openings for volunteers to be a part of these Forest Health monitoring efforts.

This course will teach trap monitors about the ecological threat of invasive insects, how to spot an infestation, and trap check procedures.

Each volunteer is assigned to check trap(s) in a specific location; monitors will check their trap(s) every two weeks for about two months. Volunteers will be provided with supplies needed to complete a trap check.
