Stop by the Minnewaska Nature Center to watch members of the New York State Parks Invasive Species Team as they climb up a tall Eastern hemlock tree to look for hemlock wooly adelgid insects. These forest pests are an invasive, non-native species of aphid-like insect that are damaging our native hemlock trees. Nick Martin, Assistant Environmental Educator, and Stefan Ramirez, SCA/AmeriCorps Intern, will be staffing an education table, where children can observe insects up close through a microscope and also make a leaf rubbing and tree life cycle drawing.
Pre-registration is NOT required.
